Exhibition-contest of historical paintings "the Cyrillic script" Active from 5/1/2021 to 5/31/2021

The Historical Park organises an exhibition-competition of historical painting on the theme "the Cyrillic script". This competition allows all Bulgarian and foreign artists to participate by presenting their works dealing with this subject. The historical period that will relate to this theme, extends from the date of creation of this alphabet until the end of the 15th century. The will of the organizers is to present the theme of the creation and development of the Cyrillic alphabet around the world. Financial rewards will be awarded to the winners:

First place: 10,000 levas

Second place: 3000 levas

Third place: 2000 levas

The first three paintings will be kept by the Historical Park, while the others will be returned to their authors or may be purchased by visitors of the event after a sale agreement between the artist and the buyer is established. All artists thus have a great opportunity to present their work, and visitors will be able to enjoy the beauty of the work done. The decision will be rendered by visitors of the website, visitors to the Park itself and a jury of professionals. The judgment will have an equal weight from the visitors and from the jury. We wish all painters great moments in the realisation of their exceptional paintings.

The original paintings must be sent to the Historical Park until 20.04.2021, either physically or by post. We advise you to contact the organizers beforehand, so that we can receive your work and monitor its shipment before the end of the regulatory period.

RULES Adult Category: Second International Contest of Historical Painting

Historical Park AD, registration number 202785815, address : Bulgaria, Varna Region, Vetrino region, Neofit Rilski village, the «Historical Park» presents its contest-exhibition of historical painting with the topic «the Cyrillic script» (described hereafter as contest).

The time period to which the topic refers is from the creation of the Bulgarian alphabet to the end of the 15th century. The desire of the organizers is to present stories from the creation and distribution of the Bulgarian alphabet around the world.

1. General conditions

1.1. This regulation for the competition determines the procedure for organising and conducting the competition, criteria for selection of the paintings, the composition of the participants, the procedure for awarding the winners.

1.2. The competition is organised by Historical Park AD.

2. Goals of the contest

2.1. Discovery of talented artists; supporting them in the process of creative development.

2.2. Formation of interest in the history of Antiquity and the Bulgarian Middle Ages.

3. Participation to the contest

3.1. Artists from different cities in Bulgaria and from other countries are invited to participate.

3.2. There is no age limit for the artists in the competition.

3.3. The physical presence of the artists at the exhibition is not compulsory.

3.4. Authors must register on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US/

4. Requirements for the paintings

4.1. Each participant can submit no more than one work during the competition.

4.2. The painting must be signed by the author.

4.3. We recommend a canvas of a minimum of 70x100 cm.

4.4. The picture should be painted using one of the following techniques: watercolour, acrylic, oil paints or graphics.

4.5. The title of the work is needed, with a short description of the topic.

4.6. The authors must show variety and expressiveness in their works.

4.7. The topic of the competition must be reflected in the works.

4.8. Any presentation of a triptych will be registered as one piece of art.

4.9. A photo of the picture must be sent to e-mail: [email protected] by April 10th, 2021.

4.10. Collective works are not accepted.

4.11. The author guarantees that he has personally created the work and is the sole author, and also that in creating the work he has not infringed copyright or other rights of third parties, that he has all rights to the work, that this is his original work. that neither the work itself nor part of it is an imitation or copied or borrowed from another author and that the Author will not violate anyone's rights and legitimate interests.

5. Procedure and schedule of the contest

5.1. Works for the competition shall be accepted until April 20th, 2021 at the address: 9002, Bulgaria, Varna, Dobri Voynikov Str., number 8.

5.2. Paintings of the participants in the competition are evaluated by the jury, by the visitors of the park and on the website https://ipark.bg/ from 10:00 am on May 1 to 8:00 pm on May 23, 2021, by voting.

5.3. The winners will be awarded with diplomas and cash prizes:

1st place - 10,000 levas.

2nd place - 3,000 levas.

3rd place - 2,000 levas.

5.4. The results of the competition will be announced on May 24th at the exhibition in the Historical Park. The results of the competition and the photos of the paintings will be published on the website of the Historical Park : https://ipark.bg/. The paintings that won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will become the property of the Historical Park, against payment of the cash prizes under item 5.3. The authors and Historical Park AD can sign a separate contract for the transfer of ownership of the paintings.

5.5. The award ceremony will take place no later than 10 working days after the announcement of the results of the competition in the Historical Park (Bulgaria, Varna district, Vetrino district, Neofit Rilski village).

5.6. Diplomas and cash prizes are awarded to the winners no earlier than the established day of the award ceremony, provided they have a valid identity document.

5.7. The organizers reserve the right to decide who does not meet the conditions of the competition.

5.8. Only works that have been created from today until April 20th, 2020 can participate in the competition.

5.9. The paintings must be submitted in original to the Historical Park by April 20th, 2021. by personal delivery by prior arrangement or sending by courier.

6. Criteria of the decisions

6.1. Accordance of the content of the picture with the theme of the competition.

6.2. Artistic skill: technique and quality of the painting.

6.3. The originality of the image, a special creative style, bright, expressive quality in the image.

7. The jury

7.1. The paintings will be exhibited in the gallery of the "Historical Park", as well as in the virtual exhibition on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US, from the 01st to the 31th of May 2021.

7.2. Their evaluation will be established by a special jury of specialists appointed by the Historical Park, by the visitors of the Park and on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US during the exhibition, and the opinion of both juries (the specialists and the audience) will be of equal weight. Voting will be possible only by visitors on site and online on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US.

7.3. Information about the ineligible works and the motives of the jury is not provided. Unaccepted works will be returned.

7.4. The results of the judgment will be announced on the website https://ipark.bg, the social networks of the Historical Park and the media.

8. Postage of the paintings

8.1. The costs of transporting the works to the Historical Park are at the expense of the participants.

8.2. The organizers bear the costs of transporting the works back to the authors. Organizers are not responsible for lost or damaged works during their transportation to the exhibition and back.

8.3. Each work must have the following information:

• The name of the author, exact address and contact phone number;

• Title, technique used, year, size in centimeters;

• The application of a short creative biography is recommended.

9. Rights of the organizers

9.1. The organizers reserve the right to use the information provided by the authors in the preparation of an electronic catalog of the competition. The organizers have the right to reproduce each work, and to use information about the author and the picture only on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US, the social networks of the Historical Park, in the media and in the electronic catalog of the exhibition.




Prof. Aksinia Dzhurova

Prof. Aksinia Dzhurova is a professor of art history. Since 1974, she has been working at the Institute of Art Studies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and since 1984 she has been a full-time professor of art history at Sofia University (Center for Cultural Studies). Since 1986, she has been the director of the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Duychev ”at Sofia University. From 1987 to 1995, she was vice-president of the International Association for the Study of Slavic Cultures at UNESCO. Founder (with Prof. Nikolay Genchev) of the Department of Cultural Studies at Sofia University "St. Cl. Ohridski ”and the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies" Ivan Duychev " related to it. Since 1989, she has been a guest professor at many foreign universities in Italy, the Vatican, the United States, Germany, Belgium, Israel, Russia, and Japan. Organizer and curator of many exhibitions of medieval and contemporary art in Bulgaria, Europe, Asia and the United States, author of films and shows in Bulgaria, Italy and France. Author of over 50 scientific monographs and studies.


Prof. Margarita Vaklinova

Prof. Margarita Vaklinova is a Bulgarian archaeologist, longtime lecturer at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ”, NBU and guest professor at the University of Paris and in Strasbourg, author of more than 150 scientific publications. In 1962, she graduated in History at Sofia University, specializing in museum archeology. In 1980, she became a doctor in history. In 1971 - 1972 and 1988 - 1989, she specialized in France. In the period from 1962 to 1966, she was the head of the Historical Museum in Smolyan. In the period from 1966 to 1974, she was a researcher at the Archaeological Institute with the museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. During the period between 1974 and 1984, she was a research associate at the same institute. In the period from 1984 to 2004, she was a senior research associate. In 2009, the President of the Republic of Bulgaria - Georgi Parvanov, awarded her with the Order of Stara Planina and the Order of St. St. Cyril and Methodius - for her especially significant merits for the development of culture. In September 2020, with a decision of the SOC, she was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of Sofia" - for her work and contribution to the field of research and preservation of cultural heritage.



Andrey Yanev 

Andrey Yanev graduated from the National Academy of Arts - majoring in mural painting. He specializes in artistic enamel in St. Petersburg, Russia. In the period 1982 - 2017, he participated in over 60 solo exhibitions in the country and abroad: Sofia, Varna, Stara Zagora, Balchik, Plovdiv, Burgas, Slovenia, Greece, England, Belgium, Korea, Poland, USA, Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Turkey, Austria and others. Participates in national and international plein airs. In 2004 in the world magazine "INTERNATIONAL ARTIST", he presented Bulgaria as an author from the Balkans (www.internationalartist.com). He is a co-organizer of the festival "Artists, Balchik, Love - a meeting of European seas" and is a co-author, co-organizer of national and international projects, working with children together with the "Academy of Children's Creativity - DAYA" (www.artdarina.com). He has won many prestigious awards from national and international competitions.
