IIIrd International Competition for Historical Painting Active from 5/1/2022 to 5/31/2022

Historical Park announces its competition for the best historical painting on the theme "Guardians of Orthodoxy". One of the goals of the competition is to increase the interest in Orthodoxy, and another - through it to discover, encourage and support talented artists in their creative development.

The competition is open to artists from Bulgaria and abroad from the age of 18. Authors must register in advance on the website of the Historical Park.

Each artist can present only one work, which is to be framed and signed. The recommended minimum size of the canvas should be 70x100 cm. The painting should be executed with the techniques of oil paints, acrylic, watercolour or graphics. The work should have a title and a short description of the plot should be attached.

The photo of the picture with a resolution of 300 dpi must be sent by e-mail: event@ipark.bg by April 1st, 2022.

Works must arrive in original in the Historical Park by April 20, 2022. They will be evaluated by both a professional jury and visitors to the park, as well as by online voting on the website https://ipark.bg/ from 10:00 hours on May 1 until 20:00 on May 30, 2022 by voting. The results will be announced on May 31st, 2022.

The winners of the competition will be awarded with diplomas and cash prizes:

- 1st place - 10,000 levas;

- 2nd place - 3,000 levas;

- 3rd place - 2,000 levas.

The paintings that shall win the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will become the property of the Historical Park, and the rest will be returned to their owners. Every visitor of the Historical Park in the period May 1 - May 31 has the opportunity to purchase works that they liked during the exhibition, and the receipt will take place after the exhibition.

1. General conditions

1.1. This regulation of the competition determines the procedure for organising and conducting the competition, criteria for selection of paintings, the composition of the participants, the procedure for awarding the winners.

1.2. The competition is organised by Historical Park AD.

2. Objectives of the Competition

2.1. Discovery of talented artists; supporting them in the process of their creative development.

2.2. Creation of interest in the history of Orthodoxy.

3. Participants in the Competition

3.1. Artists from different cities in Bulgaria and other countries are invited to participate.

3.2. The competition is open to artists at least 18 years old.

3.3. The physical participation of the artists in the exhibition is not mandatory.

3.4. Authors must register on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US.

4. Requirements for the paintings

4.1. Each participant can present only present one work of art.

4.2. The picture should be framed if possible (foreign participants are exempted).

4.3. The picture must be signed by the author.

4.4.Recommended minimum size of the work: 70x100 cm.

4.5. The picture should be painted using one of the following techniques: watercolour, acrylic, oil paints or graphics (without computer graphics).

4.6. Put a title to the work and a short description of the plot.

4.7. The painting must reflect variety and expressiveness in their works.

4.8. Artists must reflect in their works the theme of the competition.

4.9. Presentation of a triptych will be considered as participation of only one work.

4.10. The photo of the picture with a resolution of 300 dpi must be sent by e-mail: event@ipark.bg by April 1, 2022.

4.11. Collective works are not accepted.

4.12. The author guarantees that:

- he personally created the presented work and is its sole author,

- he did not infringe the copyrights or other rights of third parties when creating the work,

- has all the rights to the work, that it is his original work, that neither the work itself nor part of it is an imitation or copied or borrowed from another author,

- He does not violate anyone's rights and legitimate interests.

5. Procedure and schedule for the competition

5.1. The photo of the picture must be sent by e-mail: event@ipark.bg by April 1st, 2022.

5.2. Works for the competition are accepted until April 20th, 2022 at the address: Bulgaria, Varna District, Vetrino Municipality, village of Neofit Rilski 9223, "Historical Park".

5.3. The paintings of the participants in the competition are evaluated by the jury, by the visitors of the park, as well as on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US from 10:00 am on May 1st to 8:00 pm on May 30th, 2022 by voting.

5.4. The winners will be awarded with diplomas and cash prizes:

• 1st place - 10,000 levas;

• 2nd place - 3,000 levas;

• 3rd place - 2,000 levas.

5.5. The results of the competition will be announced on May 31st at the exhibition in the Historical Park. The results of the competition and the photos of the paintings will be published on the website of the Historical Park https://ipark.bg/en-US. The paintings that will win 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will become the property of the Historical Park, against payment of cash prizes under item 5.3. The authors and Historical Park AD can sign a separate contract for the transfer of ownership of the paintings.

5.6. The award ceremony will take place no later than 10 working days after the announcement of the results of the competition in the Historical Park (Bulgaria, Varna district, Vetrino district, Neofit Rilski village).

5.7. Diplomas and cash prizes are awarded to the winners no earlier than 30 working days after the award ceremony, provided they have an identity document.

5.8. The organisers reserve the right not to accept works that do not meet the conditions of the competition.

5.9. Only works created from today untilл April 20th, 2022 can participate in the competition.

5.10. The paintings must be submitted in the original of the Historical Park by April 20тх, 2022. by personal delivery by prior arrangement or sending by courier.

6. Evaluation criteria

6.1. Correspondence of the content of the picture with the theme of the competition.

6.2. Artistic skill: technique and quality of the painting.

6.3. The originality of the image, a special creative style, bright, expressive disclosure in the image.

7. Jury

7.1. The works will be exhibited in the gallery of "Historical Park", as well as in the virtual exhibition on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US, from May 1st to May 30th, 2022.

7.2. Their evaluation will be done by a special jury of specialists appointed by the Historical Park, by the visitors of the park and on the website www.ipark.bg during the exhibition, and the opinion of both juries (specialists and the audience) will be equally weighed. Voting will be possible only by visitors on site and online at https://ipark.bg/en-US.

7.3. Information about the ineligible works and the motives of the jury is not provided.

7.4. The results of the jury will be announced on the website https://ipark.bg/en-US, the social networks of the Historical Park and the media.

8. Sending the paintings

8.1. The costs of transporting the works to the Historical Park are at the expense of the participants.

8.2. The organisers do not bear the costs of packaging and transporting the works back to the artists.

The works will be sent back to the artists within 60 days after the end of the exhibition.

The organisers are not responsible for lost or damaged works during their transportation to the exhibition and back.

8.3. Each work must have the following information:

• The name of the author, exact address and contact phone number;

• Title, technique, year, size in centimeters;

• Description of the plot.

9. Rights of the organizers

9.1. The organisers reserve the right to use the information provided by the authors in the preparation of an electronic catalog of the competition. The organisers have the right to reproduce each work, and to use information about the author and the picture only on the website https://ipark.bg, social networks of the Historical Park, in the media and in the electronic catalog of the exhibition.

10. Purchase of works during an exhibition

10.1. Each author must provide information about the value of his work.

10.2. The process of booking the paintings will take place during the exhibition.

10.3. The procedure for the sale of the works will be made after May 31st, 2022.

10.4. The payment of the authors' fees will be made by December 15th, 2022.

Prof. Aksinia Dzhurova


Prof. Aksinia Dzhurova is a professor of art history. Since 1974,she has been working at the Institute of Art Studies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, since 1984 she has been a full-time professor of art history at Sofia University (Center for Cultural Studies). Since 1986, she has been the director of the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies "Prof. Ivan Duychev ”at Sofia University. From 1987 to 1995, shhe was vice-president of the International Association for the Study of Slavic Cultures at UNESCO. Founder (with Prof. Nikolay Genchev) of the Department of Cultural Studies at Sofia University "St. Cl. Ohridski ”and the Center for Slavic-Byzantine Studies" Ivan Duychev " dependent of it. Since 1989, she has been a guest professor at many foreign universities in Italy, the Vatican, the United States, Germany, Belgium, Israel, Russia, and Japan. Organiser and curator of many exhibitions of medieval and contemporary art in Bulgaria, Europe, Asia and the United States, author of films and shows in Bulgaria, Italy and France. Author of over 50 scientific monographs and studies.


Vesko Velev


Vesko Velev was born in Karnare on March 18th, 1956. He graduated in 1985 with a degree in painting in the class of Prof. Ivan Kirkov, Academy of Arts in Sofia. Member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, painting section. His works have been presented at a number of national and solo exhibitions in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Sliven, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Pleven, Troyan, as well as in many national galleries. He gained international fame from exhibitions in France (Tour de Purdnon), Germany (Handwerk), the Netherlands (Pependreht) / Museum of Modern Art /, Japan, Croatia / Jadertina /, Dubai, Turkey.


Miroslav Yotov


Miroslav Stefanov Yotov was born on July 26, 1977 in Isperih. He completed his secondary education with a degree in graphic design in Razgrad. In 2000, he graduated from Shumen University with a degree in pedagogy of fine arts. He has participated in several student exhibitions. He started painting in 2005. In the same year he won a sculptural award at a plein air in Shumen. His first solo painting exhibition was in 2006. Due to the increased interest in his works since 2005, he is mainly engaged in custom oil painting and sculpture.
